Activity description

Ride along protected coastline and race against the tide with this adventure fat biking tour from De Kelders to Hermanus.

Take only pictures, leave nothing but tyre marks... That's the philosophy on this 20km adventure fat biking tour from De Kelders to Hermanus. Showcasing some of South Africa's most beautiful protected coastline, fat bike tours are an eco-friendly way to explore the beach and backcountry on two wheels - cruising towards the headland on the search for local wildlife.

Location
An iconic beach town on South Africa's western cape, Gansbaai is a 3-hour drive from Cape Town and is renowned for its dense population of great white sharks that have made it a popular cage diving location. Situated near the Walker Bay Nature Reserve, next to De Kelders, Gansbaai is surrounded by private reserves, cave systems and untouched coastline.

Activity
A 4hr beach trail from De Kelders to Hermanus, this fat bike excursion uses trails only accessible by 4x4 vehicles making it one of the more arduous biking options. An endurance 20km circuit that covers De Kelders, Walker Bay reserve and Die Plaat - groups will have the opportunity to spot breaching whales (July - Dec) sea lions and rare birds. The tour will also stop at Sopiesklip cave for a chance to check out the amazing architecture and have a swim. For sporty groups, this tour can be extended to include an optional 4km - heading inland at Sopiesklip and ride along the Estuary back to Grotto Beach.
